Night's Invitation

The Night invites
herself in,
on soft steps
to the city.
Day wanes. . .
yet my heart
is full of light
untouchably beautiful
as a morning sky.
I invite Night home
and now she comes
without Terror.
My heart cannot
be darkened
as a house
awaiting the dead.
No,
my heart
has learned light:
I will not let it go.
I invite her in
and am rejoined.
