A strangeness
why the air so still?
I remember life
behind bars
and behind bitterer bars
trapped in nights of pain.
Wired windows
shut against the world
like empty eyes
seeing nothing
and no one.
I would weep
at the sight.
A cold child
a child alone
dying inside,
now to return
to a world of light
to smile
without blood
and emptiness behind her eyes.
Wire mesh
enclose the flesh
endless days
longer nights
sobs, pain
ache inside out.
Sunlight is
a foreigner to my country
unlooked for and
untrustworthy.
there are days
when I cannot believe
I am free.
